Romeo and Juliet Meet In Congress
David Colberry is running for Mayor of Oswald, Florida because he feels intense anger about the cultural changes and shifts influencing his daughter's lives while attending Oswald High School. He is enraged his daughter Mikaela is on a cheerleading team with a transgender cheerleader. He is happy about his daughter, Julie, for embracing what he perceives as conservative values.
Unbeknownst to David, Julie is a secret lesbian who faces an identity crisis. She feels that having high-functioning Autism is a flaw and something to be ashamed of. Julie unlike her sister Mikaela is not popular and not attractive and suffers from obesity. She also believes that homosexuality is a lifestyle choice and not natural. She is secretly dating the only child of the first and only Democratic mayor of Oswald, Florida, Joaquin Al-Hayek. Julie is ashamed about being physically and romantically attracted to Joaquin Al-Hayek's daughter, Silvia. Julie believes that homosexuality is not natural and a choice based on her conservative upbringing.
Julie cannot mention to her super-homophobic dad that she is dating Silvia. Silvia is liberal and accepts that she is a lesbian, yet cannot admit to her dad she is dating Julie Colberry because she is the daughter of her dad's mayoral political opponent. Silvia, feels a need to comfort Julie and convince her homosexuality is not a choice and to be proud of being a lesbian. With the hope it can not only comfort Julie but also to help Julie influence her father to be more liberal and accepting of homosexuality.
